Catching Up and Maintenance

On October 18th, Zane started Maintenance.  He will be taking a daily chemo pill, a weekly chemo pill and steroids (for five days every 4 weeks) at home and going into clinic every 4 week for IV chemo.

On October 21st we celebrated Bob's birthday.  Zane made him a cake and all three kids helped him open his presents.  We kept things low key since Zac was still regaining his strength.

On the 22nd the Kids Kicking Cancer group had an event at the Cranbrook Institute of Science for kids with cancer and their siblings.  They closed the place on Friday and scrubbed it from top to bottom.  Zac still wasn't a 100% but he wanted to go so we stayed for about an hour.

On October 25th I took Zac in for his clinic visit and he didn't make counts.  His platelets were below the minimum requirement.

When we got home from the clinic visit he fell asleep in my arms.

On October 26th, my sister and I took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese.  We got there early and pretty much had the place to ourselves.  It was nice to do something normal with all three kids.

The boys were so excited to play their favorite game.

On October 29th, Bob and I had a date night.  Our first one since the boys were diagnosed.  My sister was kind enough to watch the kids while we went to the Luke Bryan concert.  We had suite tickets and backstage passes.  What we didn't know was we also got pit passes.  After we had our meet and greet with him we got to go onto the floor and watch the concert from there.  Our small group got to spent about 15 minutes with him before he went on stage.  He put on a really great show and we had a blast.

Backstage, not the best picture but it will do.

On October 31st we were going to take Zoe trick or treating since the boys had no interest in going and then at the last minute they wanted to come.  They lasted a few houses and then Bob brought them back home while I continued on with Zoe.

Trick or Treat

On November 1st Zac had clinic again to see if he made counts and he didn't.  His platelets were still just below the requirement.  We picked Zoe up from Mrs Katie's house and went back to Chuck E Cheese.  This time they spent the majority of their time on the roller coaster ride.

On November 5th we took the kids to the Michigan vs. Maryland game.  We got there a little too early and only made it through the 1st quarter.  It was their first football game and Zane had it in his mind that he was going to be able to play football with the team.  Once the game started he enjoyed watching it.

Today, November 8th, Zac made counts and started Maintenance.  We will be going into the clinic every four week for treatment for the next three years.  During this phase they will be able to resume all normal activities and their hair will grow back.  The doctors told us today in about six months you won't be able to tell they are going through chemotherapy.
