Memory Verse 3

I totally forgot to post this on February 1st when I turned in my verse on the LPM blog.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

  • Store – to put something away for use in the future, to put or hold something somewhere for safekeeping
  • Treasures – something of great value or worth often accumulated or hoarded.
  • Destroy – to ruin something or make something useless
  • Heaven – perfect dwelling place

I chose this verse as a reminder not to put value on my earthly possessions. I want to own them I don’t want them to own me. It also serves as a reminder that God is so much bigger than jobs, bank accounts, 401K’s, and so on…

Reminds me of the song lyrics from a Casting Crowns song; “I’ll take a shack on a rock than a castle on the sand.”
